Glossary
Plain-language definitions of the terms you'll meet in this bundle. It grows as the bundle does.
-
AI chat tool — a conversational AI product you talk to in plain language, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Microsoft Copilot. You type (or speak), it replies. No coding required.
-
Prompt — the message you send to an AI chat tool. A better prompt gives the AI clearer context and usually produces a better result. Most pages in this bundle give you a ready-made prompt you can copy and paste.
-
Context — everything you supply in your message: background information, the text you want the AI to work on, your intended audience, the tone you want, and so on. The AI only knows what you tell it in the current conversation; it cannot read your mind or your inbox.
-
Before and after — the demo format used throughout this bundle. Each page shows a real-world situation ("before") and the AI-assisted result ("after") so you can see what to expect before you try it yourself.
-
Tone — the feeling or personality of a piece of writing: formal, casual, friendly, direct, warm, and so on. You can tell the AI what tone to use, and you can ask it to adjust the tone if the first draft doesn't land right.
-
Hallucination — when an AI states something confidently that turns out to be wrong or made up. It is not lying; it is pattern-matching and sometimes the pattern leads somewhere false. Always verify any specific fact, statistic, date, or name the AI gives you — especially anything that would embarrass you if it were wrong.
-
Iterate — refine the output by sending a follow-up message. You rarely need to start over; instead, say what to change ("make it shorter," "try a friendlier tone," "add a deadline to the ask") and the AI adjusts.
-
Role or persona — asking the AI to act as a specific kind of expert or voice ("act as an experienced recruiter," "write this as if you're a patient teacher"). It shapes how the AI frames its response and the vocabulary it uses.
