Make a Plan or Checklist
When to use this¶
You have a goal — a project, an event, a move, a deadline — and a blank page. Use this when you need to go from "I need to do X" to a clear list of steps you can actually work through.
The prompt¶
You are an organized project planner helping a non-expert get something done.
My goal: [DESCRIBE YOUR GOAL IN ONE OR TWO SENTENCES]
My situation: [ANY RELEVANT CONSTRAINTS — timeline, budget, who's involved, tools I have]
Output format: a numbered checklist, grouped into logical phases if there are more than 6–8 steps. For each step, add a short note (one line) on why it matters or what to watch out for. Keep language plain and action-oriented.
Before and after¶
Before: "I need to plan a team offsite for 12 people in three weeks. I have no idea where to start."
After (excerpt):
Phase 1 — Lock the basics (this week) 1. Confirm the date and get attendance commitments — don't book anything until you know who's coming. 2. Set a rough budget per person — this drives every other decision. 3. Pick a venue type (office, retreat space, restaurant) and book it — good spots fill fast.
Phase 2 — Agenda and logistics (week 2) 4. Draft a day-of schedule — include breaks; people tire quickly in all-day sessions. 5. Arrange travel or parking details and send to attendees...
Make it yours¶
- Add "make it shorter" to get a stripped-down 5-step quick-start version.
- Specify your role ("I'm the only person doing this") so the AI doesn't assign tasks to a team you don't have.
- Ask it to flag which steps are blockers — things that hold up everything else.
- Paste your draft checklist back in and ask "what am I missing?" for a second pass.
